  1. First 5 California and First 5 Marin define “School Readiness” as:


  2. Children’s readiness for school (physical well being and motor development, social and emotional development, approaches to learning, language development, and cognition and general knowledge

  3. Schools’ readiness for the children and

  4. The development, coordination and augmentation of family and community supports that contribute to children’s readiness for school success.


First 5 Marin’s School Readiness efforts are community-driven, collaborative and strengths-based. Shoreline’s School Readiness Initiatives are based upon community participation, design, involvement and decision-making. Efforts that are community driven, collaborative and strengths-based have proven their sustainability and effectiveness. The West Marin/Shoreline community participated in the creation of all programs to develop clear goals and strategies for our families with children ages 0-5.
